About the County Jail

The Brevard County Jail Complex is owned by the Board of County Commissioners and is operated by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. The complex currently houses over 1,600 inmates daily. Originally located in Titusville, FL, the facility moved to its current location in Sharpes, FL, in 1986. At its inception, the jail had a capacity of 386 inmates, illustrating significant growth over the years.

Today, the complex accommodates approximately 1,800 inmates, reflecting its expanded infrastructure. The facility includes a booking area, several housing sections, a medical ward, and various support areas such as laundry and recreation spaces. Notably, the complex features a maximum security main jail, three additional “tents” for housing, a dedicated women’s facility, and a mental health/medical unit that was established in 2008.

This comprehensive setup underscores the facility’s ability to manage a large inmate population while catering to diverse needs. Key facilities include:
